Now Accepting Applications to be a 2019-2020 Youth Ambassador
Narcolepsy Network (NN) is now accepting applications for the Youth Ambassador Program (YA). This is a national program designed to train promising young members of NN to advocate for people with narcolepsy. Youth Ambassadors will embrace who they are, use their voice to share their story, and inform their communities about narcolepsy, all while building friendships to last a lifetime.
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be between the ages of 14 and 21 during the 2019-2020 school year
- Commit to reading training materials prior to attending the training
- Be willing to speak in public, give presentations, and share your story
- Be a member of Narcolepsy Network at the Advocate Level or higher (Join now or learn more about our Membership Levels including the Family Level)
Note: For applicants younger than 18, parents must also submit a parent application as this position may require parental/guardian support (transportation to presentations, phone follow-ups, presentation setup assistance, fundraising activities, press release submissions, etc. Parents of 18-21 year-olds are also encouraged to apply in support as well.) Parent partners are required to attend the Youth Ambassador training during the last hour on Friday, October 25 at 4:00 PM.
Additionally, each YA is expected to complete at least three advocacy activities throughout the year. Examples include:
- Present to a group of ten or more people (school, support group, religious organization, etc.)
- Publish one publicly accessible article or video about narcolepsy
- Hold one community fundraiser for Narcolepsy Network (car wash, walk, bake sale, etc.)
Training for the YA Program will take place on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 9:00 AM-5:00 PM at the Hotel Albuquerque in Albuquerque, New Mexico (before the start of the Annual Conference). Applications are open to all, but Narcolepsy Network membership is required in order to participate in the Youth Ambassador Program. See Membership Levels.

A Youth Ambassador application, as well as a Parent application, must be submitted for those under the age of 18. Questions about the program can be emailed to Sharon O’Shaughnessy.
