Virtual Mini-Conferences

We will be hosting five virtual mini-conferences to cover the topics that were planned for the in-person conference.

Our second Virtual Mini-Conference will be held on December 5 at 1:30 PM ET/10:30 AM PT. The theme will be I Was Just Diagnosed: Now What?

This Virtual Mini-Conference will also feature Narcolepsy Network’s annual membership meeting.

Sessions will include:

Narcolepsy 101 followed by a Q&A
This session will be a general overview of diagnosis and treatment options for narcolepsy.

Dr. Charles BaeSpeaker: Dr. Charles Bae
Charles Bae is a Sleep Neurologist who is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Neurology. He went to Georgetown for medical school and graduated in 1998. He went to the Cleveland Clinic for Neurology residency and Sleep Medicine fellowship. He worked at the Cleveland Clinic as an attending for 14 years before moving to Philadelphia in 2017 to work at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Jeffrey M. DaynoSpeaker: Dr. Jeffrey Dayno
Jeffrey M. Dayno, M.D. is Chief Medical Officer at Harmony Biosciences, where he oversees all activities related to clinical development, regulatory and medical affairs.

He is a neurologist with 10 years of experience in clinical and academic medicine followed by over 20 years of experience in leadership roles at Merck & Co., Cephalon, and ViroPharma. In these roles, he built and led clinical, regulatory, and medical affairs teams toward multiple NDA approvals and provided medical support for many successful product launches.

Dr. Dayno has served as Principal Investigator on numerous clinical trials and has published and lectured extensively on various topics in the field of neurology, with a focus on stroke, sleep disorders, pain, and migraine. He has also served as a peer reviewer for several scientific neurology journals.

Dr. Dayno earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, did his residency training in Neurology at Temple University Hospital, and completed a fellowship in Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disorders in the Department of Neurology at Henry Ford Hospital. 

He served on the neurology faculty at Jefferson Medical College prior to transitioning into R&D roles in the pharmaceutical industry.  

The RESTORE Trial: An Open Label Study of Once-Nightly Extended Release Sodium Oxybate (FT218)
Avadel will present information on the RESTORE Trial, an open-label study of once-nightly extended-release sodium oxybate (FT218). The presentation by Avadel’s Senior Medical Director, Dr. David Seiden, will cover background information on Avadel and their investigational once-nightly FT218, and then address key points of the RESTORE trial which is currently enrolling people with narcolepsy. Session attendees can expect to learn more about the RESTORE clinical study objectives, who is eligible to participate, what the trial requires of participants, and how to locate a participating clinical site to learn more.

Speaker: David J. Seiden, MD, FAASM
Dr. Seiden has 25 years of experience in neurology and sleep medicine and has been a principal investigator and pharmaceutical consultant for over 100 sleep disorder clinical trials. Prior to joining Avadel, he served as Senior Medical Director, CNS Neurology at Syneos Health, and as Medical Director for Baptist Health Sleep Centers of South Florida. Dr. Seiden has published numerous manuscripts in peer-reviewed medical journals and teaches sleep medicine at Nova Southeastern University College of Medicine. He graduated from the Georgetown University School of Medicine and trained at Columbia University-The Neurological Institute of New York.

An Integrative Health Approach to Narcolepsy followed by a Q&A
Above and beyond its medical features, narcolepsy is a deeply personal experience that impacts the body, mind, and spirit. An integrative approach views narcolepsy in a much broader context that addresses psychological, social, dreamlife, and spiritual issues. This presentation will provide recommendations for rising above the challenges of narcolepsy.

Dr. Rubin NaimanSpeaker: Dr. Rubin Naiman
Rubin Naiman, PhD, is the sleep and dream specialist and clinical assistant professor of medicine at the University of Arizona’s Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. He pioneered the development of integrative approaches to sleep and dream disorders, integrating conventional sleep science with depth psychological, and transpersonal perspectives. Dr. Naiman founded and directed sleep programs at Canyon Ranch and Miraval Health Resorts and currently maintains a global telehealth practice. He is the author of several books, audiobooks, and medical book chapters on sleep and dreams.

Looking Beyond the Symptoms of Narcolepsy
This session will highlight patient-focused research surrounding the burden of narcolepsy on overall health, and how Jazz is implementing the development of meaningful treatment options that help address unmet patient needs.

Speaker: Jessica Sacks
Jessica Sacks, PhD, MS is a Senior Medical Science Liaison for Jazz Pharmaceuticals. She received her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Molecular Medicine from Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Prior to joining Jazz Pharmaceuticals, she gained extensive clinical research experience in academic, hospital, and industry-based settings, with a focus in rare neurological disorders and cardiometabolic health. In her current role, Dr. Sacks is dedicated to uncovering the latest scientific advances in sleep medicine through medical education and continued research, to ultimately drive meaningful therapeutic discoveries and deliver life-changing treatment options to patients in need.
