It is hard to believe that a full month has already flown by since I stepped into the role of executive director at Narcolepsy Network. This first chapter has been a whirlwind in the best possible way; filled with deep learning, inspiring conversations, and an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the warmth with which you have welcomed me.

My primary goal over the last 30 days has been simple: to listen and learn.

I have spent my initial weeks immersing myself in the inner workings of our organization and connecting with the incredible people who drive our mission forward. Here is a snapshot of what my first month has looked like:

• Connecting with the Board and Staff: I’ve been working closely with our small but mighty team and board members to understand our current operations, evaluate our active programs, and ensure we are building on a rock-solid foundation.
• Listening to Our Community: I have had the privilege of hearing from several of our members, advocates, and volunteers. Learning about your personal journeys, your triumphs, and the challenges you face has deeply underscored the vital importance of the work we do here every day.
• Planning for the Future: Behind the scenes, I am already diving into strategic planning. We are looking at how we can expand our educational resources, strengthen our advocacy initiatives, and create even more robust spaces for connection and support.

If I had to sum up my first month in one word, it would be inspiring.

Every conversation I have had reinforces just how resilient, passionate, and vital this community is. I am incredibly encouraged by the strength of our existing programs, and I see immense opportunity on the horizon to amplify our collective voice, advance public awareness, and better serve everyone impacted by narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia.

Stepping into a new leadership role certainly means diving into the deep end, but the incredible dedication of this community and the board of directors makes every moment rewarding. I am more energized than ever to lead Narcolepsy Network into its next chapter.
