SPEAKERS

Keynote Speaker: Thomas Scammell, MD
Session Title: New Developments in Understanding and Developing Potential Treatments for NT1, NT2, & IH
Session Description: Narcolepsy with cataplexy (NT1) is caused by loss of the orexin/hypocretin-producing neurons. This discovery has rapidly advanced understanding of NT1, and how one might develop potential treatments. This knowledge is also influencing how one might approach potential treatments for Narcolepsy Type 2 (NT2 ) and Idiopathic Hypersomnia. Dr. Scammell will review the neurobiology of orexin/hypocretin- producing neurons and how possible new treatments may be developed for NT1, NT2 and IH.
About Dr. Scammell: Dr. Scammell is a Professor in Neurology at Harvard Medical School, and sleep physician and researcher at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He serves as an ad hoc reviewer for New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Neurology, Nature, Cell, and Neuron. The author of over 150 journal articles and chapters, Dr. Scammell has lectured both nationally and internationally on narcolepsy and the neurobiology of sleep and wakefulness.
Dr. Thomas Scammell, Professor at Hardvard Medical School, answers a question during a Narcolepsy Network webinar about orexin agonists.

Dr. Zhou’s work has been continuously grant funded since 2012, and he serves on the editorial boards of Annals of Behavioral Medicine and the International Journal of Behavioral Medicine.
