NN Met with FDA Representatives

March 5th, 2018

Several Narcolepsy patient advocates, along with Narcolepsy Network’s President Dr. Mark Patterson and Executive Director Dr. Eveline Honig went to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to meet with officials responsible for drug evaluation. In addition, Dr. Helene Emsellem, a local doctor from Maryland with experience treating narcolepsy patients, also joined us.

We selected four different patients in different age groups and maintained diversity by selecting two men and two women. They each told their stories about how narcolepsy affects their daily life. They spoke of their struggles  with school or work, and issues with dating, social life, child care, and household chores.

The FDA team was very interested in the current treatments for narcolepsy and we made it clear that there is a huge unmet need. The FDA representatives, in turn, asked many questions.

The group was small, but the FDA was clearly very impressed. We hope to continue the conversation. We were very pleased that they gave us the time to meet with them and listen to our concerns.
