In Memoriam: Dr. Feldman

We are saddened to hear that one of our Medical Advisory Board Members passed away on Friday, June 21. Dr. Neil Turk Feldman passed away after complications from open heart surgery. He was 76 years old.

Dr. Feldman was born in Washington, DC and received his undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland in zoology. He attended the Washington University School of Medicine and completed an internship and a residency in internal medicine at the Barnes Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Feldman then served two years in the United States Air Force. He then continued his postgraduate studies in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine at Harvard University. He later became an assistant professor and head of the Brigham & Woman’s Hospital ICU in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Feldman later moved to Florida and joined Palms of Pasadena hospital and eventually opened his practice as a pulmonary physician. In 1985, Dr. Feldman founded and became the Director of the St. Petersburg Sleep Disorders Center at Palms of Pasadena Hospital. He became a Diplomat of the American Board of Sleep Medicine in 1990 and his sleep center was fully accredited by the American Sleep Disorders Association in 1992.

Dr. Feldman served as a principal investigator, conducting clinical trials for major pharmaceutical companies in the fields of narcolepsy, insomnia, and sleep apnea, and authored and contributed to numerous publications in the field of sleep medicine and pulmonary medicine.

Dr. Feldman is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, his loving significant other Dr. Olufunke Fontenot of St Petersburg, FL, and his business partner of many years, Mary O’Brien, ARNP.
