It always seems like there's a tough line we have to walk. If you are really passive with doctors, they'll just do the bare minimum and no new treatments or diagnoses will ever be explored. But you also don't want to give too much push back and be a WebMD self-diagnosing patient either. He who treats himself has an idiot for a doctor and all that. Usually if I and a doctor disagree, I give him the benefit of the doubt for a bit. Then, if his ideas don't lead anywhere, I'll start to push back with more of my own. I remember my PCP from way back when, after he ran out of ideas, he just sort of gave up. He was like, "well, we've tested for everything I know and come up empty, and your symptoms are vague, so I don't know what to tell ya." IE: He thought I was making crap up.
