May I suggest that conferences be slated for areas that are not super expensive to visit? Places that have airports which are airline hubs are good because they are cheaper to fly to. I know that Dallas was chosen once. Denver is another. I don't remember many of them, but if it would be taken into consideration, then I'd be happy to check into it.
