Was wondering if this could be mild cataplexy? If I am woke up suddenly or the phone rings after I have just fallen asleep, anything like that, I get full body "jitters". feels like tremmors all over. My hubby can even feel it if he puts his hand on me. It is weird. And the dream hallucinations...could it be the alarm going off in the background and you are dreaming of "what is that noise, someone shut it off". Or hearing the TV with the sunday morning church service on and dreaming of being in church and singing hymns. Just new to all this and wondering what is normal and what is not? Since I thought most of my symptoms everyone felt and they were just a normal thing. Come to find out after asking questions to those around me, I am a mess, huh? laugh.gif

I have experienced those jitters, and also morph real sounds into dreams (like the church bells). The question is, do people who don't have narcolepsy experience these things, too?

I don't even know if I have narcolepsy (test scheduled for March 10th), so I am also trying to figure out what is "normal" and what might be a symptom...for instance, during the last 10 years I have periodically experienced slurred speech - very noticeable (embarassing), but lasts only 20 or 30 seconds. Turns out this can be a kind of cataplexy.

Also, when I am falling asleep, it feels as if my body falls asleep before my mind does, but I'm not unable to move the way I am when I wake up with sleep paralysis. Is sleep paralysis different when falling asleep??

Anyone else have this weird symptom: exposure to bright sunlight for more than 20 minutes makes it necessary for me to sleep for up to 12 hours. I've seen only one mention of this symptom on a different narcolepsy message board, which is now inactive.

I usually don't manage to get 12 hours of sleep continuous, but I have found that when I can sleep as long as I need to, I end up needing about 22 hours of sleep, if I have been out in sunlight.

I usually end up curling up somewhere in a corner for a nap after being out in the sun, regardless of whether I should be having a nap, due to excessive sleepiness hitting me hard.
