I currently take Protriptyline for REM reduction. All of the Tricyclic Antidepressants tend to reduce REM, and as a result help to consolidate sleep and promote SWS. I am still on a fairly low dose, but it does seem that I am getting a better quality of sleep. I am finally managing to sleep for more than 5 or 6 hours in a block without waking up on some nights. There are other Antidepressants that can have fewer side effects than TCAs, but TCAs work better if they are well tolerated.
I take Protriptyline because I had previously taken Nortriptyline and Amytriptyline with poor results.
