Is this a no brainer? Is it "better" to see a Neurologist about your Narcolepsy (it being a neurological disorder) than it is to see a Respiratory Specialist who DOES "do" sleep disorders and is situated within the grounds of the Sleep Lab but whose "thing" is sleep apnea and narcolepsy is more of an interest but not specialty (I could be wrong on this).
Yes, neuro or psych are your N specialists. Pulmos are just long guys that decided to pick up a few extra bucks on the side pushing CPAPs.

I which I could go see a neurologist, but I'm stuck with the pulmonary guys for now. The only encouraging thing is that the doctor who saw me suggested narcolepsy so maybe he will be open to looking at my sleep study this way. Maybe if you find a pulmonary place that is willing to explore things outside of just CPAPs would benefit you, too.

I've dumped the respiratory guy. He was arrogant, condescending and was pushing the stimulants despite my psychiatric history and disastrous attempt at them already. He won't recognise the medication (Valdoxan) my amazing psych has me on as something that is helpful to Narcolepsy and doesn't give a toss that me saying how much better I am is "evidence" that it's working. Buhbye!!
Good for you. There really needs to be a separate specialty just for sleep, so none of the greedy pulmos can get away with their CPAP pushing.
