The info papers describe the content as "a lot", how much sodium is in Xyrem? Some folks who may need to limit their salt intake could have issues. With a nightly dose of 9mg, how much sodium is being ingested?

From the Prescribing Information for Xyrem:
Dose
9g 1638 mg
7.5g 1365 mg
6g 1092 mg
4.5g 819 mg
3g 456 mg
Based upon a 2000 calorie diet, adults should have up to 2400 mg of sodium. I hope this helps. I am not a big salt user, but I love salt on certain things. There is salt with a lower sodium content, if you are concerned. I hope this is helpful to you.

Eeep, I didn't realize that Xyrem had so much sodium!
For those who have risk factors for heart disease and stroke (e.g., hypertension, African American race), sodium should be limited to 1500 mg/day.

I work in a cardiac ICU. We usually limit our patients to 2000 mg of sodium a day. 1500 is really strict. Anyone with risk factors for heart disease or with hypertension should consult their Inernist or cardiologist before starting Xyrem.

Thanks Hank, the sodium issue is forcing us to change our diet and lifestyle as BP is now an issue. Now does anyone know why Jazz uses so much sodium? does it aid absorption? I guess I do have questions when the reorder call comes in.
thanks again.
thanks again.
