Hello all!
My 6g. a night of xyrem was raised to 9g months ago. At the same time, my cymbalta was switched to paroxetine. The anti-social and depressive feelings I have, have now been quadrupled. I cant even talk to my mom on the phone, and she used to be my best friend. In my gut, I feel like its the Xyrem. Am I crazy for thinking this? Has anyone else experienced this after taking Xyrem/increasing the dosage of Xyrem? Idk what to do. My doctor wants another $100.00 just to talk to me about it. I can't afford to talk to him. I've tried phone calls. Hope you all are doing well and sleeping soundly.
xoxo

Everyone is different, but for me, I would guess that the paroxetine is the problem. I was on Effexor, and worked up to 9gm Xyrem a night; but the entire time, I felt anxiety during the day, and could NOT even doze off for a nap though I was desperately sleepy. Even when on 5gms for the first dose, I had trouble falling asleep. I was so tired, anxious, and on edge that I snapped at everyone. Then when I missed four days of Effexor (prescription refill delayed), I realized that I no longer felt anxious and felt more rested. At that point, I wasn't absolutely certain that it was the Effexor, so when I got the refill, I took it the next morning. Then WHAM, just like that, by mid afternoon, I was beside myself with anxiety and anger…at NOTHING. I stopped taking it, and told my doctor that I refuse to take it ever again. Luckily, he agreed, but only because I didn't have any cataplexy during the four days I was off of it (the 9gm Xyrem was taking care of the cataplexy all on its own.

That was back in May. I'm still on 9gms Xyrem, and no antidepressant for cataplexy. I'm much more rested, and have never felt that kind of crazy anxiety since. Some of these antidepressants have an "energizing" effect, and I think that is what was affecting me so badly. I've never had a problem with Xyrem (except when the dosage was WAY too low), and I weigh 98-100lbs. For me, Xyrem is a Godsend; it has save my life.

I hope this helps some. Let us know what you decide. :) Delta
