I have an overnight study scheduled in two weeks followed by an MSLT.
I am worried to death that I am going to have performance anxiety and not fall asleep during the MSLT.
Has anyone else NOT fallen asleep during their tests, or felt that they just wanted some validation on what is "wrong" with you?
Anyone NOT sleep during their overnight or MSLT?

Hi Debbie,
Yes, I remember feeling desperate, and worrying that I would not fall asleep. I think lots of people feel that way, because there seems to be a lot riding on the results of the sleep study (i.e. getting some help). Once I got there, I had no trouble sleeping.
Good luck with your test.

When I did my study I was afraid, too, that I wouldn't fall asleep. Told my wife when I got home from the study that it seemed to take "forever" for me to fall asleep. When I got the results, it turned out that it had taken a whopping 90 seconds!

M over night was at U of M and It was different.
They took me off my meds which made me sleep 17 hour of the day, so Iwas constantly asleep. The patterns of my sleep were I was awake for 30 min. and asleep for 2 hours everday. And I my time for falling into REM sleep was instantanious 0 to 15 secs is all it took.
They turned the lights out and the guy that was supposed to ask me questions was like
" ok stay awake till I can ask yuo a few questions to make sure everything is alright."
But, I was already out of it and into some kind of catalexy dream state.
They tested me many times but the first one they had to turn the lights back on to get the questions asked. narcolepsy."
and that was my third or fourth sleep study and after that it still took them two years to get me properly medicated. U of M is one of the best sleep clinics in the US, so Narcolepsy can be treated no matter the severty of the case .
Keeps your hopes up and hang on It'll get better.

Wow did i have anxiety. And my thing is, after the 5th nap I asked the tech what my latency was and she said "that is the only one you really went into deep sleep in, the others were just micro sleeps" So why did i even have go take the 5th nap if the other 4 said i didnt "sleep"?
