Thanks for the link! I'll definitely read through that thread. It is a couple years old, though. I was hoping to find someone who's experienced it since the new, tighter TSA restrictions were put in place. Maybe I'll be the one to have to experience it first. XD
I've travelled with xyrem as recently as April 2011. Here's what to expect: You should get a large clear ziplock baggie and put your xyrem in it. Keep the xyrem in it's original bottle with the prescription label still on and make sure to screw the cap on tight. Put the xyrem baggie in your carry on bag. When you get to the security line, take the xyrem baggie out of your carry on and put it in it's own separate bin to go through the screening machine. Once it goes through, a TSA agent will most likely pick it up on the other side of the machine. They will ask you if they can screen the medicine. When you say yes, they will open the ziplock baggie, remove the xyrem bottle, open the cap, and squeeze the bottle a few times while holding it upright with a q-tip over the opening. Then they will take the q-tip and put it into their own special screening machine. When the xyrem passes (it takes just a few seconds) they will put the cap back on and give it back to you. Then you will go and get on your plane.
Or, they may just take a look at the xyrem baggie, ask you if it's your medicine, and when you say yes they may just hand it back to you.
I've travelled both domestically and internationally with xyrem, and in my experience about 90% of the time they will screen it with the q-tip. I have never had a problem with it. No one has ever asked me about it or expressed any concern. I think that from a security standpoint, they are most concerned about making sure it is not an explosive, and once that is established, they are happy for you to be on your way.
Hope that helps...
