I was employed in Ohio as a Property Manager for 7 years, and was fired in October 2010, when I was 7 months pregnant. I had won many awards for my performance and I was very good at my job. I believe that the following are the reasons why I was fired: 1) My boss hates me, and for no good reason. 2) I was pregnant and had just put a request in for a 90 day maternity leave. 3) I was off of my medication while pregnant, so I wasn't as productive. I still met all deadlines and completed all work, it just took me much longer to do so.

I met with an attorney and filed a complaint with the EEOC.
Does anyone have any advise or experience with this? The attorney that I am using doesn't seem to feel that the narcolepsy really plays too much of a role.

And gosh, isn't it surprising that there still exists a wage gap between women and men?

Okay, I know about jack diddly about laws in this area, but it sounds to me like you have an EXCELLENT case to pursue, just in terms of pregnancy alone (and that I'm pretty sure it's illegal to terminate someone without providing the reason.) On it's own you probably have yourself a straightforward winning case with plenty of precedence and it might be easier to pursue this on it's own. BUT I would be inclined to disagree with your attorney - if you feel the narcolepsy played a role, then it should be at least investigated. As far as I know your employer would have to provide you with "reasonable" accommodations, which it sounds like you were not even close to overstepping. In the case that the employer defends itself by saying your productivity had been lower, you should be prepared to defend yourself.

Good luck! I hope someone with experience can come weigh in to help you out =D Let us know how things progress!

I was told by someone (trustworthy) in the medical field that if a doctor writes a note that says you have to take a nap every 3 hours, your employer must abide and allow you. So, yes, I TOTALLY think that narcolepsy can play a big role!

Good Luck!
