I co-lead a local support group. It's a lot of work, but very rewarding, if anyone wants to participate, please let me know. If you particiapte in a support group in your area, what do you like about it? I am always looking for fresh ideas!

Hello Kathleen,
Your posting is very timely for me. I am trying to start a support group in Edmonton, but am having trouble recruiting founding members. My sleep specialist has handed out about 30 business cards, and only one person has contacted me so far. Is this typical? He is convinced that there is a need for a group, but perhaps people are reluctant or unable to help with getting the group off the ground. Any suggestions about how you started your group would be greatly appreciated. I, too, think that a local group will be worth the effort, and look forward to having one in the near future.
Many thanks.
Nancy

I was lucky and took over agroup that had already been meeting for 20 years. From what I've been told, a doctor helped the group.
My suggestion to you would be to keep at it, and if and when someone needs a group, you can be there.
I send out lots of letters (like 200) and only 10-15 people show up. Narcolepsy Network has a support group manual, which may be helpful to you.
Good luck![list]

OMG, I'd love to meet others like me! I dropped an email to you and your co-leader via your web page with contact info.

I have all the states I seperated in hopes people will sign in and meet there. Please move this topic there.
That area needs more attention. That is where people will look...
Support Group Meet-Up
I just want to make sure no one gets missed. What would be ideal is if we didn't have people looking for support groups all around different parts of the community.
Thanks, guys!

Should this be moved to the Support Group section? I've been wanting to start a support group in the So. Cal. Loma Linda area but haven't had any time. Good luck getting yours set up!
