What's considered an average dose for adderall for EDS? Is anyone doing adderall (or dexadrine or ritalin) plus provigil? At the last few visits to the specialist, we've gotten my daughter's cataplexy under control & added a low dose of short acting dexadrine in the afternoon. All huge steps. But she still doesn't feel all that with it or awake much of the day. I think her goal for the next visit is to talk about going up on the stimulants in the mornings. Are there typical or recommended doses? I don't want her to get her hopes up too much if an increase isn't likely.

When I was diagnosed with narcolepsy, dexedrine was the only treatment. It worked for me so I'm still on it. My narcolepsy improved significantly after pregnancy, so I don't need nearly as much now as I did when I was younger, but I still take a little in the morning and after lunch. My experience with dexedrine is that when you use too much of it, you know pretty quickly. I could take 15 mg of the time released capsules without feeling jittery, and most of the time I could go up to 30 without problems, but more than that and I felt jittery (similar to when you've had way too much coffee but worse) and had trouble sleeping at night. I suspect that the amount you can take and the effect it has on you varies a lot from individual to individual.
Good luck with finding the right combination of drugs. I hope you find it soon.

I have been wondering the same thing about a standard dose of Adderall.
I am taking 20mg of (instant release, not SR), two to three times a day and I also take Xyrem at night. This is a really good combo that keeps me I'd say about 85-90% functional, which is light-years from where I was just 1 1/2 yrs. ago. I started the Adderall first and we played around with the dosing for about 6months, but when we added the Xyrem there was a HUGE improvement!!!

Next month, she's trying an extra 5mg of adderall xr in the am (feternoon short dexadrine will stay the same). She sees the doctor again in 2 months, so we'll see what he says then.

I was introduced to the MonaVie health drink about 4 months ago and no long suffer from lack of sleep. I get a good nights rest and able to function throughout the day without a problem.

Hi Merrymom,
I also take Adderall XR...I am currently taking 60 milligrams a day. I have tried Provigil and Focalin XR, but nothing seems to work as good as Adderall. I have gotten to the point where it is not as affective as it once was...I wonder if anyone else has had these same issues...??

It is normal to build a tolerance but it still should be effective "enough". At least better than nothing, eh?
BTW you should read my post on Desoxyn and get your doctor to write it. You will still have that tolerance issue but not as much.

Hello,
My son takes 200mg provigil everymorning with 10mg adderall, and another 10mg adderall in the afternoon at school. This combination seems to get him through the day really well so far. The adderall just affects his apetite. Otherwise it seems to work great.

The apetite suppression will go away fairly fast.

'fraid not. I am almost to the point of not refiling the med. It is almost not better than nothing.
Thanks

I have heard about that MonaVie health drink. Why do you think it works?
Are you still on your meds? Which one do you drink?
