Adrafinil
I don't know know how it popped into my mind, but I found several online sites that sell adrafinil at prices lower than modafinil. Adrafinil is what you can say an older drug in the same class as modafinil and it gets metabolized into modafinil in the body.

Has anyone tried it? Was it successful? How does it compare to modafinil? Any side effects? Finally, what is a good daily dose?

Thanks!

Not sure about anyone else, but I typically work through channels with my physicians for prescriptions rather than online sites. There have been too many articles about people getting the wrong drugs, substandard drugs, etc. from disreputable foreign pharmacies.

As far as the drug itself, I have no experience with it, so I'm sorry I don't have anything to share with you there. It is not approved by the FDA (I live in the United States), so it looks like it is only available in France and certain parts of Europe. However, I'm not sure about whether people living here could import it if they purchased it in a country where it is legal.

My understanding about Adrafinil is that it was discovered about the same time as Modafinil but it has to "build up" in your system rather than working immediately. From my own reading it looks like it comes in 300 mg doses, so a good place to start would be one dose per day in the morning. After giving it a week or two to build up, If I felt too wired, I'd go down to 1/2 dose per day in the morning. If my alertness didn't last through the day, I'd take a second dose at lunchtime. That's sort of the path we took with my Provigil.
