Just visited my sleep doc (probably last time with him) and discussed other med options since the provigil doesn't seem to be working for me. I am going to give it one more shot at 400mg in the morning. I had been taking 200mg morning, 200mg afternoon, and 100mg late afternoon. This actually made my sleep attacks worse - I would basically crash when I got home from work. I never experienced this without meds, at least not that extreme. Anyway, he did say that he could prescribe Nuvigil which I have heard about but didn't think that it was available for rx yet. He tells me that 4-6 weeks ago it became available but he doesnt think it will be effective since I do not respond well to provigil. He also added that if the new dose of provigil doesnt work then he thinks I should just 'cope' with my symptoms since I can still somewhat funtion during the day (wrong answer - considering I have seen him 2x...a little early to be giving up on a patient, don't ya think) Is anyone else taking nuvigil? and, is it working for you?
Nuvigil Anyone?

I'm not taking it yet... I have an appointment coming up though, so now I'm excited.
I had no idea it was already out.
Thanks for the info
Oh yea and I also tried the 500mg a day of provigil... This was terrible for me. I think I was expierencing a drug overdose at that point. It was scary! I'm on 400mg Provigil right now and still sleepy.

Great. I would definitely ask your doc about nuvigil. I still have yet to find anywhere online that actually confirms that nuvigil is available for rx at the moment. No pharmacy that I could find lists it as a current available drug so my doc might not be a reliable source of info. I am actually getting a referral to go to someone else, but good luck

Just cope with your symptoms because one drug didn't work? There are many drugs, many dosages, many more combinations. My question to my daughter's sleep specialist when there is a problem is "Have you exhausted your bag of tricks?" If the doctor you are seeing only has a one trick bag, I would be concerned.

I completely agree with Merrymom. Here are some other stimulants that are used to treat EDS:
Provigil (Modafinil)
Ritalin (Methylphenidate)
Dexedrine/Dextrostat (Dextroamphetamine-Sulfate)
Desoxyn (Methamphetamine-HCl)
Adderall (mixed Amphetamine salts)
There is a new drug called Vyvanse (Lisdexamfetamine), I don't know a lot about it.
