I recently had to have a crown put on and couldn't get numb after 4 shots of local anesthetic. My dentist actually stopped, said "maybe you're having a bad tooth day," and rescheduled me for another day when there was more time for me to get numb.

The second time, I still required 4 shots of local anesthesia and I STILL didn't get numb.

Today, in the mail, I received a copy of the Narcolepsy Network's excellent booklet titled "NARCOLEPSY: A GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING." In the booklet, it says that people who take CNS Stimulants can have difficulty with Dental anesthesia, even after taking a "medication holiday." Well, I take Provigil twice a day!

I want to provide an article about this to my dentist, but I can't find a citation in the booklet that links this statement to any scientific research. Do any of you have links to any articles that describe this phenomenon?

Many thanks...
Kimberly

Interesting I did not know that. When I was still using provigil back in the day I had those problems too. I once was up to 9 local shots before my dentist decide that any more might be a bad idea. She rescheduled me and put me completely under. All that for a cavity!
Now I know why! That was a problem for a long tim even after I quit using the provigil. But now I dont have a problem with it. guess it took some time to get out of my system.

good to know thanks for posting this!
