Hey, I'm new here and trying to get some answers. I'm 21 and was just diagnosed with narcolepsy a few days ago--only symptoms so far are EDS and the hallucinations (since high school), no known cataplexy or paralysis yet. My doc has put me on Provigil (100 mg in the morning and 100 mg at lunch), 50 mg Zoloft in the morning and 5 mg Ambien to sleep at night. It's only been three days and things are going okay--I couldn't fall asleep at all last night but I figure that's just me getting used to the meds and getting the dosage right. The night before I slept until 4 am with no dreams whatsoever but fell back asleep at 7 am and hallucinated like CRAZY haha (if anyone's experienced anything good/bad with Ambien or Zoloft then please let me know!).

My real question deals with ADD/ADHD and narcolepsy--has anyone been diagnosed with both? And if so, has Provigil helped with memory, attention, organization, etc? Or have you found that another stimulant has been better for both ADD and narcolepsy? Before I did my sleep study I went in for ADD testing and my doc strongly suspects I have it (80% chance WITH a sleep disorder)--I had a very high IQ but my reaction, attention, etc scores were subpar. We're trying to get my narcolepsy under control first though. I'm just going back to school in the fall and I don't want to do horribly again so I wanted to know if anything helped yall or if anyone was going through the same stuff. Sorry for rambling a little--just worried and trying to figure out how to handle this. Thank yall so much!

Researchers are currently looking at the relation between ADD and narcolepsy. My family and I all have the genetic marker for narcolepsy as well as (+) sleeps studies, but we often think we have problems with focus and impulstivity. It is a very good question! You are not the first to question the relation.
