hi all,
I'm (very) new and would love to do a nicer introduction later on, thank you all for being here-- but I have a slightly time sensitive question at the moment:
I have my sleep study tonight and MSLT tomorrow and was on strict instructions not to nap or have caffine or adderall at all today and I tried, I tried, I really did-- but I woke up at 8am and was awake for a bit but fell back asleep for about three hours. Eep.
Now, normally (as am currently unemployed and a student on summer vacation) I sleep at least 10 hours but usually get about 12 or so and take a few hour naps later on and am unable to function without them-- so today I still got my 'normal' amount of sleep for me but I'm worried that I inadvertantly screwed up my chances for my sleep study by sleeping too much since they told me to keep a normal daytime schedule and not nap.
Any opinions? I know that most of you have probably done these before so I'd be really happy to have your thoughts on this. I've been waiting months for this test and I don't want them to turn me away for napping when I doubt that I would be able to get through the day without one again for whenever they rescheduled me...am I making sense?
am very stressed out, I was trying so.hard. to not nap sad.gif

ps- does anyone else think it's appropriate that tried and tired are almost the same word?
I kept mis-typing 'tried' above and had it coming out 'tired'
bah.

I'm sorry I didn't respond before you went, but I will let you know what my dh did. He works the 3-11 shift so they were concerned that his normal bed time of about 2-3 am would interfere with the schedule. The told him when he got home from work on Friday morning DON'T sleep at all show up for the test at 8pm. I never understood why they would tell him that. I would think that they would want a "normal" day sleep to get what we would consider a good glimpse into his sleep problems. Well he couldn't stay awake and dozed in and out all day. He could barely keep his eyes open as they were hooking him up to all the machines.

I wouldn't worry about it affecting your results. N is not something that is going to hide since you took a nap (I could be wrong). Although I have read some threads where people who were previously dx were then told they didn't have it based on an overnight study, but I don't remember the circumstances or if it was another website.

What happens will happen whether or not you worry, so try to go about your normal routine and don't let it bother you. I know easy for a pwon but remember I live with a pwn and see how it eats away at him when he dwells on it.

Let us know how you make out with the results.

Hi there, I am brand new to this site as well... found it yesterday. At any rate, how did it go? I wanted to let you know that I not only slept some the day of the night study but I fell asleep off and on all day the day I was there at the clinic. In addition, I had to use my meds once a day before the test because I was stranded somewhere and had to drive and couldnt without taking my meds. Finally, I drank caffeine because without it I would have gotten a headache since my daily intake is around 6 cans a day on average. All that being said, as long as you let your Dr know the situation I imagine He/ She can take it into consideration as they review the test and I agree with the message above, I dont think you can really hide N by having slept too much. One telling sign is whether or not you dreamed during the daytime naps at the clinic. Geing into REM sleep (dream sleep) more than once is a tal tell sign that you have N. Anyway, I am not sure if any of that helps at this point but I thought I would try in case you are still anxious. smile.gif

I am eager to hear how it went. I had mine just 3 weeks ago and was diagnosed with central sleep apnea and Narcolepsy. I was thrilled to get an answer after almost 20 yrs of sleep problems.
