I am not currently pregnant, but have recently been pondering the affect of narcolepsy medications affect on pregnancy. I currently take 54mg on concerta, 10 mg of vivactil, and 100 mg of zoloft daily. I am considering abstaining from my medication during a pregnancy. What worries me is this - if I don't take my vivactil and zoloft and i have some major cataplexy issues as well as other sleep issues such as hallucinations, sleep paralysis, etc. The doctors I have spoke with really don't have too much information in regards to the medications and effects on pregnancy. Anybody have any insight or advice on this?

check the replies under "Treatment"-narcolepsy and pregnancy. There might be some helpful info there...or at least some others of us to talk to.

I've been pregnant twice and I went off my meds both times. I was told that basically the only thing you can take safely while pregnant is Tylenol. When I asked my family doctor what would happen if I accidentally got pregnant on my meds, she said something about a therapeutic abortion!
It's not easy to be off my meds, but I did it. It took a lot more planning and support than usual. However, I don't suffer from extreme cataplexy, so I can see how that would worry you. I am on Prozac for that and one of my doctors said it would PROBABLY be OK to keep taking that while pregnant...
Hope that helps!

My husband and I are in the process of wanting to start a family. I currently take Provigil daily (200mg) and was wondering if anybody else has experience with Provigil and pregnancy. Of course the doctor recommends not taking anything - especially the first trimester - but I would like to continue working too and wondered if other people have had to go on disability or what when off Provigil. I know everybody's situations are unique, but was just looking for some insight as we approach the next step in our life - children!
