Hello!
I am new to this but I find it helpful to talk to people that actually know what I am going through!
So here is my story....I am 24 and I have Narcolepsy with Cateplexy...I just start Xyrem 2 weeks ago and so far it has helped me wake up in the mornings and actually feel alert....I am on the lowest dose of xyrem plus I take provigil 2x a day!
I feel like I am missing something though....I have heard about people take Effexor as sort of a stimulant to almost act as additional help to everything! Is this true? I am going to my doctor on thursday and I woulld like to have more information about this to bring to her!

A few issues.....
-whenever I am talking to someone new I get really anxious and start stuttering and almost shaking......
-I sweat when I get nervous...
-my eyes are constantly red...im sure many people think I am a pot head or something

is there anything else I can do to help myself out?

I cannot help w/the meds at this point as I am still trying to find what works for me as well. Provigil and Xyrem were terrible for me, the side effects were dreadful. It is good to hear you are not having that experience.

I wanted to ask about the eye issue. Are they just red or do they hurt or have other symptoms? I have eye issues and have for a long while and so I wanted to ask about that part.

My eyes are often bloodshot, but they also hurt and I get spots in front of my eyes that kinda look like looking through a window w/rain on it. When my eyes start to get bloodshot, I know I need to take my steroid drops or the other symptoms will come on fast. Sometimes the symptoms come anyway because the "flare" is more serious, but usually the drops fix it right away. The issue for me is an auto-immune disease of the eyes called Uevitis. It is the 3rd largest reason for blindness in the US...no joke. If this happens to fit any of your eye issues, here is a link that might provide further info: http://www.uveitis.org/
