yes just wanted to post and get some feedback hopefully an answer, butr im on adderall was on another medicine before adderall...was on provigal to help keep me awake for i sleep 18+ hours a day and can never get anything done. well provigil knocked me plum out, and it's my understanding that is amphetimine basicly. well aderall works sorta.. im on a high dose of adderrall but thing is i don't think the dose'nt matter adderall has amphetimine and dextro amphetimine in it...i think the dextroamphetimine is working but the amphet is countering everything else. How do i explain that to a doctor without him thinken im drug seeking cause im not. but i relize that theres prolly only one in a million people where amphetimine puts people to sleep.... so the mixture should be working. but meds can work backwards on me. i think if i just had something with the dextroamphetmine i could be on a much lower dose of whatever it is and it would work better. But being it's a narcotic and doctors are so funny about that, how do you tell them this? Now let me tell you a bit bout me, im a very smart person iv been dealing with other pych issues for quite some time and take abilify and wellbutrin XL properly and for a long time. Iv been on alot of pysch meds and i really know my stuff, but this is totally new to me and iv been to tired for maybe a year or more to even deal with it but am tryin to deal with it, -no energy- no concentration - sleeping all the time (taken my anti depressants right for a long time so iv singled out it aint depression) I also know that with oposite chemistryies some people are treated with CNS=central nervous system depressants to keep them awake- well i know that will not work just for half of a .5mg xanax would knock me out for a day (i take xanax for a anxiety disorder, but i don't have panic attacks much any more a bottle would last 6 months.) so i know that aint my case...so i believe i know what it is. question is how do you tell a doctor that the mixture is puting me asleep while one chemical is doing the right job. when thats pretty uncommon and id rather my doctor perscribe somthin, and i be awake atleast and not get nothin done: then sleep all the time. But my goal is to be awake and get things done go swimming, talk on the phone, read the news ect..

1. am i missing something , am i wrong about somthin

2. if im right, how do i aproach such a touchy issue

3. is there something else i need to know

4. is this issue even delt with withen the pyscatric relm

Now about my doctor. i think he's a very smart doctor, very open minded and we have both been pretty honest with each other. i think he relizes im pretty smart but im sure it's obvios to him i can't focus or recall (memory) cause im half tireed half out of it sometimes when i see them. but i get the feeling he is stumped and can't understand why the treatment aint working .

about the medicine im on, it's keeping me awake but thats all it's doing

Well, my eyes are a little to jumpy to read through all of that right now, but I should mention that Provigil is not an amphetamine. And as for how it works, no one is quite sure. Just like with the rest of us, some meds will work for you and some won't. I get wired by depressants (i.e. benadryl and tylenol P.M.) and Xyrem is even worse about that, but for many, many other people, all those work as they are supposed to.

I was put on Adderall as a teen for my N. My then neuro, told me that it is a "paradox drug." He said when you are sleepy, it wakes you up, and when you are up it makes you sleepy.
I was just completely wired all the time so he changed me to, of all things, Dexidrine. Yeah, mom ripped that one out of the medicine cabinet after I spent hours pacing around the living room! That was before Provigil, and when I decided being sleepy was better than these crazy meds. If they had all of these new treatments years ago,my life would,ve been ,well, would've been a life.
