I recently moved to Stuttgart, Germany. I had a great neurologist in Chicago and I wish I could have kept him, but it is a little far to travel.

Can anyone offer a recommendation on how to find a sleep specialist for narcolepsy in the Stuttgart Germany area?

I had been doing pretty ok. I was off the uppers for a good 6 mos because the Xyrem was working that well. Unfortunately, I was up to about 18 grams/night to be able to get me there. I am out of X and have restarted the ups, but I am still mostly exhausted all the time, then I can't sleep at night, and when I do sleep I am having those fabulous movie-like dreams that make me feel like I am losing my mind. I needed to take time away from the X to reduce my tolerance, but at this point, I really just need a doc to help me manage the symptoms, or I fear I will lose my mind.

In the grocery store on Thursday, I was looking for maple syrup, which I did not find, but that is the last thing I can remember before waking up in my bed. I hope I paid. I restarted the ups that day.

Hi PWN!

Sounds like you had a scary shopping experience! Shopping should be fun, not scary!

Finding a sleep specialist in Stuttgart is difficult. It would help if my mastery of the German language existed wink.gif
I'm still looking, but so far this is what I found...

German Sleep Association "Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Schlafforschung und Schlafmedizin (DGSM)" DGSM-Sekretariat, Schimmelpfengstrasse 2, 34613 Schwalmstadt-Treysa, Germany. Tel: (49)6691 2733

Arbeitsgemeinschaft fur angewandte Schlafmedizin

Sclaflabor der Medizinschen Klinik Innenstadt University of munich, Munchen
Sleep Disorder Center of Witten, Witten

Let me know if this helps. I'll be sending great vibes your way!

A thought for PWN in Stuttgart,

Could your Chicago doctor help you research for someone? Do you have a family doctor yet? Perhaps he/she could help. How about contacting the closest embassy????

Good Luck

The American Board of Sleep Medicine has some international diplomates -- check out http://www.absm.org/...s/bycountry.asp? to see if there may be any nearby?

My friend Mali Einen told me these are sleep specialist in Germany. She didn't have phone numbers though.
