Oh, that's priceless. My mother cannot seem to find the word narcoleptic when she needs to and instead will often find herself saying, necrophiliac.

I told her she's gonna have to figure out how to get that right b/c I can't have that kind of stigma following me around.

Dude that totally happened to me too except it was one of my best friends as well as a family friend.

Annoying things professors have said after I did my best to explain the condition

"You should really drink some coffee"
"Would sitting in the back of the room help"
"If you fall asleep you will fail this class, so I reccomend you drop it" (Week 2)

He also made fun of the fact I was sleeping and pointed it out to everyone. It's really hard to stay awake in a room basically set up like a movie theater with a teacher speaking in monotone about art history. It was also in the dark. D: Sleeping was inevitable. Also wasn't on any meds at the time. : (

Some of these are just too funny! I found out last year that a coworker talked to my boss about her concerns, thinking I was on drugs! My boss told her that I can be on all the drugs I want as long as I get my job done. It's hilarious now but I was upset when I found out.

Wow these are all so crazy! It's hard to believe that people can be so ignorant!

Through the years, I have come to hate when ANYONE comments on me getting up late, or arriving late. Such as "Glad you decided to join us!" or "Do you feel better now that you've slept the day away?" Because these were the most frequent comments my parents made.

I went to my Chiropractor today, and I told him that I'd just gotten a sleep study done and that Narcolepsy was suspected. He recommended that I go on a 2 week juice diet, to reduce the inflammation. I was like...seriously?

But I try to stay positive, and having people around me that are empathetic is truly amazing. My best friend lets me take naps on her couch and never even says a word when I just pass out on it. Lets me sleep as long as I want. And my boyfriend even tucks me in for naps :)

I also remember my high school math teacher, who I had for both Algebra and Geometry (Informal Geometry, which she let me take even though she said I was capable of doing regular). I would fall asleep in most of the lectures, and she still found time to help me during lunch when I had missed something (even though at that time I had no idea why I was so tired all the time and couldn't stay awake during most of my classes).
