I was wondering how common this was with everyone. I know everyone has nightmares and "bad" dreams... but last night I had a horrible dream about everyone around me violently dying... I was crying all night (in my sleep) and it took me a good 2 hours after I woke up to calm down. Is that what this is? My boyfriend just thinks I am over emotional and crazy... which is hurtful, but he doesn't seem to understand the HOLD these kind of dreams have on me.

Such horrible dreams are also common but it isn't a hypnagogic hallucination. They happen going into sleep when you are sort of half awake & half asleep. It's kind of like you start imagining things because you start to dream before you are fully asleep. It can also be quite terrifying especially when you feel you are in harms way which seems to be a common subject.

I don't have hypnagogic hallucinations but your dream sounds exactly like those described to me by others who have them. Your may want to search for info. describing the hallucinations for your boyfriend to read. This should help him understand what you are going through!

My doctor is not helpful and doesn't have time to answer these questions for me (I see a new neurologist on Tuesday). I just feel like my dreams like that aren't normal... I take forever to come back to reality after I wake up and even 10-15minutes AFTER I wake, I still feel like I am smack dab in the middle of the dream sometimes.

I have had those dreams for years! Even now that I've been diagnosed with N, I didn't put it all together, but that's probably where it all started for me. They were terrible in junior high, high school, and college.

The dreams were so terrible when I was in college that I had a friend ask a psychology professor to analyze them. Once I was told that I was just having a hard time separating from my family, the dreams calmed down a bit, only to start up with a new theme.

Even though I'm not thrilled to have N, I am thrilled to understand why I dream such terrible dreams.

The Last Hallucination I had was at the Spring Confrence in Albany. It was about a cat crawling under a chair...pretty stupid. lol.

Funny! Almost exactly my last!

I was late for work a couple weeks ago -- I ran downstairs to bolt out the door, and low and behold, there was our neighbor's cat sitting in front of the door! It refused to move and I didn't know what to do, but yell for the wife asking what the hell is our neighbor's cat doing in our house!?! She came running downstairs to grab the cat and quickly realized the reality of the situation -- She just shrugged and said, hun, it's not there, I'm going back to bed :)

I feel very fortunate that she just accepts my quirks and has always been supportive; before and after diagnosis.
